Alchemys App

Notebook

Add PDFs, Office documents, web pages, pasted text or a YouTube video as sources, then ask questions about them. Every answer in Notebook cites the exact source passage it came from, so you can check it yourself.

Sign in with Google to use it — Notebook shares the same sign-in and credit balance as every other Alchemys app.

Recently added to Notebook

Answers you can check, and more ways to turn sources into something you can use.

New

Citations open the passage

Click a citation and Notebook opens the source at the exact passage it came from, centred and highlighted, instead of showing a detached quote.

New

Audio citations jump to the second

When a citation comes from a recording, it deep-links into Transcribe at the second those words were spoken.

New

Chat with just the sources you pick

Select some sources and the chat and Studio outputs use only those, so an answer about one paper does not borrow from another.

New

Slide Deck, Video Overview and Infographic

Three new Studio tiles turn your sources into a slide deck, a narrated video overview or a one-page infographic.

What you can do

A workspace that only answers from your sources

Collect sources once, then chat with them or turn them into study material.

Add sources from anywhere

Upload a PDF, Word, Excel or PowerPoint file, plain text or Markdown, paste a web page link or raw text, or add a YouTube video that gets transcribed automatically.

Ask questions with citations

Chat with all your sources at once, or scope a question to a single source — every answer links back to the passage it used.

See how well an answer is grounded

A source coverage indicator shows how many of your sources were actually cited in the response.

Generate study material

Turn your sources into an Audio Overview, Mind Map, Study Guide, Flashcards, Quiz, Timeline, Data Table and more from the Studio panel.

Revisit what you got wrong

Track flashcard and quiz performance in the Study Dashboard so you can focus on the topics you keep missing.

Keep working across devices

Every notebook, source and chat stays under your Google account, so you can pick up where you left off on another device.

Getting started

From blank notebook to grounded answers

Everything below happens inside a single notebook.

  1. Create a notebook

Tap New Notebook from the notebook list, or open one you already have.

  2. Add your sources

In the Sources panel, tap Add sources to upload a file, or use the URL, Text or YouTube buttons to add a web page, pasted text, or a video.

  3. Ask a question

Type into the Chat panel, or tap a suggestion like Summarize all sources — each answer comes with numbered citations back to your sources.

  4. Generate an output

Switch to the Studio panel and tap a tile such as Audio Overview, Study Guide, Flashcards or Mind Map to turn your sources into that format.

  5. Check coverage and study

Watch the source coverage indicator to see how much of the notebook was actually used, and open the Study Dashboard to review flashcards and quizzes you missed.

FAQ

Questions people ask before their first notebook

What can I add as a source?

PDFs, Word, Excel or PowerPoint files, plain text or Markdown, a web page link, pasted text, or a YouTube video. Images alone aren't supported as a source.

How do I know the AI isn't making things up?

Every chat answer includes numbered citations back to the exact source passage, and the source coverage indicator shows how many of your sources were actually referenced.

What can I generate from my sources?

Tiles in the Studio panel turn your sources into an Audio Overview, Mind Map, Study Guide, Flashcards, Quiz, Timeline, Data Table and more. Slide Deck is available in beta; Infographic is still coming soon.

Does Notebook have its own credits or account?

No. It shares the same Google sign-in and Alchemys credit balance as every other app — there's no separate notebook account.

Can I ask about just one source instead of the whole notebook?

Yes — use Chat with this source to scope a question to a single document.
